    Just to clarify: Hugo from Villa Volta did NOT make a deal with the devil. He was a member of the buck riders, a criminal gang named after ghostly air spirits. He was punished by the Lady of Good, because he robbed a church, and thus stole from God’s house. She warned him about the wrath of the lord, but he just pushed her aside and robbed the church, anyway. Only to find out the next day, she cursed his house and every building he would enter, until a pure soul entered his house. Also, Walt Disney himself never visited the Efteling, but his English co-workers did for inspiration for their park, since it had a similar theme. 😉

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo 2 дня назад

      Ohh got it, thank you so much! I feel like we need to return to Efteling and use all of the great comments (like yours!) that we have received to do it justice!!

    • @JewelpetPrincess
      @JewelpetPrincess День назад

      @@IfWeGoTo I would love to see that. Also, Max and Moritz' tale is actually quite dark. The first of their seven naughty things kills chickens (which they then steal as a second prank when their neighbour is roasting the chickens), they almost drown a man, because they think it's funny to use a saw on a bridge, get baked into the oven with the baker's dough (which they survive) and in the original story, they die because the miller catches them during their final prank and grinds to become duck food. In the Efteling story, the last prank thankfully is a simple whoopie cushion on the teacher's chair. Also, during summer they have extra characters walking around the park, including them (which starts aroubd July 1st; they appear at 11:00 a.m.) and they're hilarious. 😁 Also, the actors do make sure to do respectful things that are funny. 😉👍

    You guys did an amazing job of describing and showing the beauty of the island my father, and his entire family, are from. My father was born on Saba in 1960 and immigrated to NYC with his parents when he was six. Every summer, for the first 21 years of my life, I would be shipped down to Saba to house hop amongst all my great Aunts and Uncles. My fathers people have been on Saba since the early 1600s (surnames Hassell, Zeagers and Johnson), and most of the natives of Hell's Gate ( Zions Hill ) and Windwardside are my family in some form or another. The videos you took of the trails, which were all used once upon a time to connect the villages and farmlands, are amazing. I hope others find this video and are inspired to visit, and appreciate, the natural beauty of Saba. Thank you for sharing your experience with others :).

    An interesting and thoughtful video. The war was brutal. I don't know what it would be like to have something like that happen to your home, but my heart goes out to the Bosnian people. I was teaching English to adults in Vancouver in the early nineties, so some of the refugees joined my class. I heard some harrowing stories. This is the conflict where they first used the term "ethnic cleansing," which is a translation from one of the Balkan languages. It's wonderful to see that Bosnia is recovering, but sad to see so many wars continuing, and the term that shocked us in the nineties become part of the global lingua franca.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo 2 дня назад

      Thank you. We're glad you found it interesting! The war was horrific, we can't imagine how horrible it must have been to experience it. I actually did not know that is where the term arose - however it makes sense given what happened. Bosnia seems to be doing pretty well now, but I agree. The war was in mind, but people seemed generally happy and welcoming. I completely agree, it's a shame that similar conflicts continue around the world and that humanity has not yet grown out of these types of issues. :(

Thanks so much..planning to go on 11 to 14 March 2025 follow by Tokyo thereafter..as Sakura blossom in Tokyo 2024 was very much disrupted by Climate change..hope to take a glimpse for the very least at Tamsui as the weather there tends to be warmer which is easier for sakura to bloom. :)

      Anytime!! I think the climate in Taiwan is a bit more stable given its location. We saw the Sakura this year in Tokyo and they came so late we hardly to extend our stay! Hopefully you catch them in Taiwan!! If you’re near Taipei I cannot recommend a trip up to Yangmingshan enough!

    What does it matter the race of his kids.....friends dont make fun of friendly people.He was nice enough to invite in his space genuinely.How hypocritical to publicly make fun of him

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo 21 день назад

      Wait… we were absolutely not making fun of him or his children in this, so I don’t understand how you interpreted it that way? We met with him multiple times, even before we left the island we made a point to stop by. He told us many stories about how he was the first white man to have married a black woman and have mixed children on the island… and how it affected them. At the time was unheard of and taboo - causing issues for him and his family, which he shared a bit about. The race did matter in this case, because he was the first person in the history of this place to truly break down the racial barriers that existed at the time and make a change. We thought that was kind of significant to meet someone who literally made history there, so we shared it here. We had a chuckle not because of that, but because he had 22 kids!! 22! Could you imagine having 22 children? That’s so many?! That and his direct descendants alone made up 1% of the islands population. We found that to be an interesting fact/unheard of in most places. We had a laugh about it *together* with him because I think anyone who’s parented 22 kids could have a laugh about the absurdity of it. There’s a whole television show about people who’ve had less than him! Laughing had nothing to do with the race of his children though. Also, I don’t know if English is your first language or not, but saying “that’s crazy!” is a response to a situation that’s amazing/unusual/unexpected.. etc. it’s not an insult or bad thing in the slightest.

    • @nkiah4315
      @nkiah4315 21 день назад

      @@IfWeGoTo you just confirmed your rude arrogant passive personality I typed in English why would you interject that in your response that's totally irrelevant. To me you're indirectly trying to question my intelligence. The moment you got on the boat you laughed about the seats being covered in Airline seat covers. This might be a vlog and or your bread and butter ; Good luck with! However dont let it be at the disingenuous expense of belittling carribean people! Respect that the way of life is different even if you can't identify with the "absurdity" !

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo 21 день назад

      @@nkiah4315 well.. it is relevant because we’re a travel channel and we have many people who watch/follow don’t speak English as their first language. Misunderstandings happen all the time of the time due to differences in language. It can be very nuanced. It has nothing to do with intelligence and it certainly wasn’t a slight at you, we were only clarifying. Having 22 children has nothing to do with where they’re from. It’s a lot of kids for one couple anywhere and for anyone’s genes to make up a significant portion of the population is impressive. Also in regards to the boat thing.. it was kind of cool/funny to have recycled those and see airline seats being used so far away. I don’t really understand anything to be upset over? lol. It wasn’t making fun of anyone or anything at all. Are you just searching for things to be angry about? Tbh it just seems like you’re projecting your own disparaging thoughts of other people. Like you think people are less intelligent because they don’t speak English? Big yikes.

      We enjoyed Efteling & especially the landscaping, but just prefer Disney as a park overall. It's ok to have different opinions and ties to a children's amusement park. This really has nothing to do with history.
